Hey guys ! I am new to the forum, I do computer science in a federal in Rio and now I am learning Java and soon begin to train.

I recently heard very well from the database area, especially with Oracle with regard to good wages, but when I arrived here and I went into some topics that discussed the subject, I saw that What they had told me (and I heard from colleagues, in the GUJ forum - who talked even that DBA Oracle in general is much more valued than Java developer - and even teachers) did not hit what I read from the users here Forum, the salary strip I saw posting here is well lower than I had heard.

I also like the development area with Java and database, then my final decision of what I will do when I graduate will be based on the financial return I will get. My current idea is to join the stage money to invest in Oracle certifications and the likely courses that I will have to do, so I'll leave a few questions here, anyone who answers only one of them will already help me a lot:

] In which area specifies within the Oracle career, do you believe that the likelihood of financial return is greater? And what do you think is the possible cause of this discrepancy of wages between what I heard and what I found here in the forum? And the people who had a good return following this path, can you leave any story / history about it?

Thanks for the help and patience!

Hello Luís, Welcome to the Forum ...

Sallario is always something questionable because it depends on 3 major factors:
1 - Nescess of the market - The less specialists in a particularly valued area are their professionals.
2 - Technical capacity - Various individual indicating its potential. Ask 5mil for a Junior DBA or a Java programmer is impossible, alias, ask not, but get this salary ...
3 - Relationship capacity - Yes, this is a factor important. Some call Others call the network of contacts, but we can not disregard that their contacts can provide you with better wages.

Here in the company are 3 dbas all seniors, and yet the salary of them diverges in more than 50%. Reason? Home time and technical capacity mainly. Your wages come to almost 10mil. But do not expect to gain a value like this in less than 10 years of experience. Getting a feat of these is for a few.

I think before thinking about selecting the future career by salary reassess what intersects you most, systems development or data flow control. And if you dedicate ... in about 5 years you "maybe" reach Senior, and I say perhaps not to disdain your ability but to ignore your potential ...

in the most good choice !!!

That! It depends on a lot! I have already seen functional consultant EBS earning more than 100 reais per hour! (This is what he received, but the company paid more than 200 / hour for the consulting firm who was providing the guy)

As gfkauer said:
* market need
* Technical capacity
* Relationship

And I add another:
* Criticity -> Has companies that will lose millions if determined thing It is not tidy. In this case, they do not care if the guy charge a thousand or 20 thousand to tidy up. Because it's a lot of money that's at stake. Usually those who work only with critical things gains more. I'vê seen DBA charging 250 per hour :-D -> Of course it was not any DBA heheheh
