Forcing Index (Explain Plain)

Hello I'm having trouble using index.

Is there another way to force an index ???
down to sending Oracle Search for the best table index, is it correct ???

    COD_PRODUTO,DSC_PRODUTO 
FROM .....................

porque When I try to activate the Plain Explain service The error below:

SET AUTOTRACE ON;SQL> set autotrace on; 
SP2-0613: Não é possível confirmar formato PLAN_TABLE ou sua existência 
SP2-0611: Erro de ativação do relatório EXPLAIN
