Personal,
I want to study to do the Certification for DBA.
Could you help me? With tips, simulated, values, steps I should take, someone who already has this certification, please help me ....
Maybe, depending on the number of people, we could have a topic just about Oracle Certification.
Thank you very much ... Thanks.

Hello Thiago.sousa
I'm not a DBA, but I have contact with several. (because I work in a software company that specializes in Oracle.)
From what I observe, get a stage in this area is fundamental because it is very difficult to learn the "craft" without having the contact Daily with the DBA problems of day to day ...
I would like to mention a link from the blog of Mps http://mportes.blogspot.com/2005/08/carreira-dba.html
luck !

Career: DBA
Author: Alessandro Falanque
The doubt.
Good afternoon Marcio, how are you?
first, parabens for your blog, é a great source of information.
Well let explain why I'm writing you this email.
I am a senior systems analyst and I am wanting a promotion like Oracle DBA.
Only I have not found the best way yet, I did the course at G & P but I have not yet done the certification tests because I do not feel safe.
Would you like your advice on what the best way to follow, do a stage? Work like DBA Junior? Do some classes with some DBA and then break a job?
If you can give me a light thank you very much ...
Thank you ...

The best way forward depends on the moment of his career, that only who can determine is you. In my opinion, in any profession, luck is essential. Be in the right place at the right time and, above all, be lucky enough to work with experienced people. Having a mentor at the beginning of the career is an excellent opportunity to learn good logic, proactivity, political reading, tranquility, administer conflicts, know how to prioritize tasks, define what is important, how to behave under pressure, etc.
DBA needs to understand the development area. In your case, you already have this advantage to come from there. The main objective of the DBA is to make the tasks that relate to the bank easy to carry out. In short: availability, good performance and administration.
Availability
Have the available data is to have a good backup and recovery strategy. If you already have familiarity with this, even so it's not enough. Go back to studies and practice more. Simulate all possible disaster scenarios of the bank and try to recover them.
Good performance
Understand which tools are being used for development against the database, facilitate access to traces and instrument the bank. Thus, you can identify bottlenecks and help developers build efficient and cheap SQLs for the application. Who determines the runtime of a transaction must be the business and the DBA should help achieve this goal.
Administration
are the other tasks: installation, patch application, vulnerability verification, hardware scaling (memory / disk), network configuration (TNS / Listeners / Dispatchers), Capacity Plan, client configuration, application server connectivity, etc.
I would avoid addiction to graphic tools, would rather scripts instead. Where there is an Oracle, surely there will be a SQL * plus. In a eventual external visit, take your scripts on a Pen Drive (USB Flash Memory) and that's it.
I do not know what your experience in Oracle is currently. It is a fact that studying paras evidence will help you, however, what will lead you to become a DBA is Hands-On. You have to practice, prove, investigate, do not accept anyone's word, you have to learn to prove any bank theory with scritps (reproducing). Being a DBA comes with time and experience. Take your time.

Comments:
I really agree with Marcio, but anyway to start as a DBA you will have to really work In a partner with an already experienced DBA because in our environment no one will hire you without any experience as such.
As a tip I indicate a consulting that maybe you can give an opportunity, send your Curriculum to gilberto@ntux.com.br

HANDS-ON is what there is, from seeing Márcio say that, all I'm going to do I test. I'vê seen people who use Hint without knowing right what it does, or if it's good to be used in all cases.
Tote your hand in the dough, ask, test, and you will become a good DBA.

Thank you very much.
I hope to get a lot of material here in the forum, and I count on the collaboration of all.
I am currently a Java (SCJP, SCJA) certificate and now I'm studying Oracle.
I already work with Oracle for 2 years and I am interested in making certification.
